Leveraging international expansion for growth

Client: Private Training Institute

The situation: A fast-growth registered training organisation generating strong revenue across multiple sites was expanding into an offshore market. Revenue was growing but the infrastructure underneath it was not keeping pace — no leadership layer beneath the business owner, high compliance obligations across multiple regulators, and no systems capable of sustaining what the business was becoming.

The engagement: General Manager, with an executive mandate.

What we did: Built the HR function and the executive leadership layer to support a rapidly growing team. Developed the reporting frameworks needed to maintain compliance across NZQA, TEC and Immigration NZ. Generated a separate revenue stream in a new offshore market by building and launching the first training school in India from the ground up.

The results:

  • Revenue: $2.6M → $4.2M (62% growth)

  • Team: 30 → 80 people (167% growth)

  • New programme revenue: $50K → $800K (1,500% growth)

  • India market: scaled to $1M+ annually

  • Compliance maintained across all regulators throughout
